How To Detoxify Your Skin Over The Weekend

Between meetings, sitting at your desk for 8 hours straight and your commute 5 days of the week, by the time the weekend rolls around, it can seem like you’re running on fumes – and that holds true for your skin as well! Your daily routine can leave your skin dull, tired and longing for a break; which is exactly what the weekend is for. So put your feet up, head back and detoxify your skin over the weekend with these skin care tips.

1. Scrub naturally

Since many of us forget to exfoliate during the week; over the weekend, get busy with a natural scrub that you can make yourself at home. Combine half a cup of granulated white or brown sugar with half a cup of coconut oil and 3 drops of lavender essential oil. Mix well and gently massage it all over your face. When washing off 10 minutes later, scrub your skin in a circular motion until it has dissolved. This will naturally drive dead skin away and brighten your face.

2. Drink up

While you kick back with your favourite TV show, ensure that you have a pitcher of infused water to sip on all day. Infused water will help you reach your daily hydration goals, tastes a lot better than water and cleanses the internal tract. Make yours by adding 5 lemon wedges, 3 sprigs of mint and 6 slices of cucumber to a glass jug and refrigerate overnight.

3. Wash your brushes

It may not be part of the detox you pictured but washing your makeup brushes is indirectly connected to your skin’s health. Over time, dirty brushes collect all kinds of makeup and old skin cells, which get transferred to your face when you apply makeup next. To give your brushes a much needed detox, wash them in a solution of 1 cup warm water, 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 2 tablespoons baby shampoo. Wash the bristles thoroughly, rinse under running water and air dry naturally.

4. Soak away your troubles

A foot soak may seem simple but don’t shrug away its benefits just yet. Make a soothing soak for yourself by combining quarter cup of Epsom salt and 2 tablespoons of baking soda in a basin of warm water. Soak your feet in this mixture until it goes cold. Epsom salt relieves muscle pains and fungus while baking soda aids in dead skin removal.
